VEP validity checker
A VEP tag is valid for 5 years from the day it was activated, not the day JPJ approved it. Enter that day to see your expiry date.
Example: a tag activated on 1 November 2026 expires on 1 November 2031, and JPJ's reminders arrive on 2 September, 2 October and 22 October 2031.
Rule and reminders from JPJ's VEP FAQ at vep.jpj.gov.my, read on 1 November 2026. The expiry date in your vehicle list on the portal is the one to trust.
VEP validity questions
How long is a Malaysia VEP valid?
Five years from the day the RFID tag is activated, not the day JPJ approves the application. JPJ's VEP FAQ says the tag "is valid for 5 years only (starting from the day the VEP RFID tag is activated)".
Where do I find my activation date?
JPJ emails you when the tag is activated, and VEPAMS shows the tag as activated. The vehicle list on vep.jpj.gov.my also shows the tag's expiry date, which is the date to trust if it differs from this checker.
Will JPJ remind me before it expires?
Yes. JPJ's FAQ says renewal notifications go out 60, 30 and 10 days before the expiry date, to the email on your VEP account. Renewal is done online at vep.jpj.gov.my, after you update your details.
What happens if I let it expire?
JPJ's FAQ says a VEP registration that reaches five years from the date of registration is deregistered automatically, and you apply again online. Without a valid VEP the car can be fined at the checkpoint.
