Parking in JB: mall rates, street bays and what catches you out
Written and reviewed by the Radiant VEP Solutions team.
How parking in JB works for a Singapore car: RM rates from the malls that publish them, which malls publish none, ParkMax@Johor on the street, two-hour bays, towing fees and overnight rules.
In this article
Parking in JB works two ways. At a mall you pay by Touch 'n Go card or bank card, usually at the exit gantry, and the normal zones on the four mall pages that print rates cost RM1.10 to RM4 for the first two or three hours. On a public street you pay first, in the ParkMax@Johor app, and key in the car's registration number. We could not confirm that the app takes a Singapore plate.
The catches for a Singapore driver are mostly small print. Paradigm Mall prices Friday as the weekend and has zones that cost RM15 to RM25 for the first three hours. Sutera Mall charges RM50 for a lost parking card. City Square has no overnight parking, YouTrip reports. Johor Bahru's 2026 parking order puts the fee for towing a car at RM250 to RM1,000.
Every mall rate below is in RM as printed on the mall's own page when we read it on 2 November 2026. None of those pages gives an effective date, so the board at the entrance has the last word. City Square, Komtar JBCC, AEON Tebrau City, KSL City, SKS City Mall, R&F Mall and Johor Premium Outlets print no rate we could find, and we say so beside what named reports give. To decide where to go, read which JB mall to drive to.
Key takeaways
- Carry a Touch 'n Go card and a bank card. Every mall where we could confirm a payment method takes both, and the one cash-only thing we found is valet at Mid Valley Southkey.
- Mid Valley Southkey charges RM3 for the first three hours on weekdays and RM4 on weekends and public holidays, then RM1 an hour.
- City Square publishes no rate. YouTrip reported RM2 an hour on 15 September 2026, with the car park open 7am to 2am and no overnight parking.
- Set up ParkMax@Johor before you cross and see whether it accepts your plate. If it refuses, park at a mall.
- An unpaid or overstayed street bay in Johor Bahru is a RM30 compound. A tow adds RM250 to RM1,000, plus RM10 to RM50 for each day the council holds the car.

Mid Valley Southkey parking
The Mall publishes the fullest car park page we found from a JB mall. Touch 'n Go has no minimum card balance here, and a debit or credit card also works. A live count on the same page shows empty bays by zone, refreshed every 10 seconds. The basement is P1 and P2 through Gates 1, 2 and 3, and the upper level is Gate 4. P2 showed as closed when we read it.
Gate 6 is the outdoor car park, at RM5 all day every day. The page says "a charge of RM50" is imposed "on clamping to secure the vehicle" there, without saying what triggers it. Valet is RM20 for the first five hours from Monday to Thursday and RM25 from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, then RM2 an hour, and it takes cash only.
Paradigm Mall
The rates are on posters on the mall's car park pages, with no date on them. A camera reads your plate going in, and you pay at the exit by Visa, Mastercard, MyDebit or Touch 'n Go. Look at where you turn before you commit to a bay:
- Preferred Parking in the basement costs RM3.30 for the first 3 hours from Monday to Thursday and RM5.50 from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, then RM1.10 an hour.
- Premium Zone B, from Starbucks to the Uniqlo entrance, costs RM15 and RM20 for the same two periods, then RM2 an hour.
- Super Premium Zone A, at the Assalam The Kedai Mamak entrance, costs RM20 and RM25, then RM2 an hour.
If the card runs low, the Touch 'n Go reload kiosks are on Levels 1, 4 and 7.
Toppen and IKEA Tebrau
IKEA's store page gives an RM1 rebate on the first 3 hours if you buy something and get the ticket validated at the check-out counter. The two pages disagree on Friday: Toppen's lower rate runs Monday to Friday and IKEA's runs Monday to Thursday. Allow RM3 on a Friday. Neither page says how you pay.
Sutera Mall
Sutera's table has no weekday and weekend split, so the zone and the clock set the price. After midnight every zone costs RM2.20 an hour, double the daytime hourly rate. A lost parking card is RM50 in all zones. The site names no payment method, so have both cards ready.
Malls that publish no rate
We looked for each mall's own rate and found none. The figures in the last column belong to the named report and its date, so treat them as a guide.
| Mall | What the mall's site gives | What a named report gives |
|---|---|---|
| Johor Bahru City Square | More than 1,250 lots on 6 floors. Its parking link returned a 404 page | YouTrip, 15 September 2026: RM2 an hour every day, 15-minute grace period, open 7am to 2am, Touch 'n Go or card |
| Komtar JBCC | Nothing on parking on its home page | YouTrip, 17 September 2026: RM2 for the first hour and RM2 for each hour after, open 24 hours. Setel's rate list, read 2 November 2026, adds a RM26 daily maximum |
| AEON Mall Tebrau City | We could not find a rate on an AEON page | YouTrip, 2 July 2026: around RM1 per entry for non-members, by Touch 'n Go or a contactless card at the gantry |
| Johor Premium Outlets | Nothing on parking on its directions page | TheSmartLocal, updated December 2024: flat RM3 per entry, with no payment method given |
| KSL City Mall | Basement and Levels 3 to 6, entered from Jalan Seladang and Jalan Rusa | YouTrip, 7 May 2026: 2,800 spaces shared with the hotel, and no rate |
| SKS City Mall JBCC | We could not find its own parking page | YouTrip, 15 September 2026: on-site parking, and no rate |
| R&F Mall | We could not find its own parking page | YouTrip, 8 July 2026: its own car park, and no rate |
City Square JB parking
City Square is the one mall with a reported overnight ban. YouTrip's September guide says the car park runs 7am to 2am and tells you not to leave the car past closing. We found no published charge for a car that stays. A car that has to stay overnight is better off at Komtar JBCC next door, joined by a sheltered bridge: YouTrip has its car park open 24 hours, with valet at RM25 a day or RM50 overnight. The same guide warns that those rates change without notice.
No other mall page we read states an overnight rule. Ask at the car park office before you leave a car past closing anywhere.
How you pay at a mall
Two malls print both methods on their own pages: Mid Valley Southkey and Paradigm. YouTrip reports Touch 'n Go and card at Komtar JBCC and City Square, and Touch 'n Go or a contactless card at AEON Tebrau City. Touch 'n Go's help page adds that an EZ-Link x Touch 'n Go Motoring Card pays parking fees in Malaysia, so if you already carry one for the Causeway it does this job too.
The Touch 'n Go eWallet is the weak option. No mall page we read says its gantry takes the app, and being stuck at an exit barrier with only a phone is a poor way to find out. Cash matters at one place we can name, valet at Mid Valley Southkey. YouTrip's AEON guide calls that car park cashless and then suggests carrying a little cash for parking anyway, which is cheap insurance.
Reload before you reach the exit. At Komtar JBCC the points are on Level 3 near the food court and Level 4 at the car park office, YouTrip reports.
Street parking and ParkMax@Johor
ParkMax@Johor is the parking app for seven councils: Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Kulai, Muar, Segamat, Tangkak and Mersing, according to its store listing, updated in September 2026. It replaced MBJBSpot in Johor Bahru from 1 June 2026, and old credit can be transferred until 31 December (Bernama; The Iskandarian). Johor Bahru City Council said in April that payment for city parking would be accepted only through the app. Its 2026 parking order still lists coupons as a system, though we did not look for anyone selling them.
We could not confirm that ParkMax@Johor takes a Singapore plate. The store listings, the order and the news reports we read do not say either way. The app is in Apple's Singapore store. GetGo's help page for its Drive to Malaysia bookings tells drivers to use it for Iskandar Puteri and for car parks, but it says nothing about plates and still sends Johor Bahru streets to MBJBSpot. Install it and add the car before you cross. If it refuses the plate, go to a mall.
The order sets out what the app needs: pay first, then enter the area, the registration number, how long you are staying and your payment option. It also says excess fees are not refunded.
Street rates and hours in Johor Bahru
The order's schedule lists streets including Jalan Trus and Jalan Lumba Kuda. The minimum charge is RM0.40 for half an hour and RM0.60 for an hour, with ceilings of RM3 and RM5, and GetGo quotes the same RM0.40 and RM0.60. Charging runs from 8am to 6pm.
The sources differ on the days. GetGo says Monday to Saturday, free on Sundays and Malaysian public holidays. The order's controlled hours read "Saturday to Friday", which is all seven days, with no Sunday exception in that schedule. Go by the signboard on the street. If there isn't one we'd pay on a Sunday anyway, because an hour costs RM0.60 and the compound costs RM30.
Two-hour bays
Iskandar Puteri City Council began enforcing two-hour limits in October 2026, The Star reported on 3 October. Bays painted red carry the limit from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm, at RM0.60 an hour up to RM1.20. Daily passes are not valid in them, monthly passes still stop at two hours, and cars over the limit will be towed. The streets are:
- Jalan Indah 15/1, 15/2 and 15/3 in Taman Bukit Indah
- Jalan Pahlawan 1 in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah
- Jalan Camar and Jalan Persisiran Perlin, as The Star spells it, in Taman Perling
- Medan Nusa Perintis and Taman Nusa Perintis in Gelang Patah
Johor Bahru has its own two-hour streets. The order's limited period schedule includes Jalan Segget, Jalan Duke, Jalan Dhoby, Jalan Tebrau (Susur A), Jalan Ngee Heng and Jalan Sulam, with no extension after the two hours and towing allowed straight away.
Finding a bay downtown
The Straits Times, as reported by Malay Mail in June 2025, found customers of city businesses struggling for lots because workers heading to Singapore held bays from dawn. For the old town, a mall car park is the simpler plan. Our JB day trip guide covers what to do once the car is parked.
What towing and compounds cost
| What happened | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Street bay unpaid, or over the time you paid for | RM30 compound | Johor Bahru order, Fourth Schedule |
| Parked on the road outside a bay | RM30 compound | Johor Bahru order, Fourth Schedule |
| In one bay for more than 24 hours | RM30 compound, and the car can be removed | Johor Bahru order, paragraph 36 |
| Car towed by the council | RM250 to RM1,000 | Johor Bahru order, Seventh Schedule |
| Car held by the council | RM10 to RM50 a day | Johor Bahru order, Seventh Schedule |
| Clamped at Mid Valley Southkey Gate 6 | RM50 | Mall's car park page |
| Lost parking card at Sutera Mall | RM50 | Mall's car park page |
The order was gazetted on 30 April 2026 and took effect from 1 January 2026. It applies to Johor Bahru City Council only, so these amounts don't carry over to other councils. Any single offence can be compounded at up to RM300.
Getting a towed car back
You claim the car from the council within 21 days of removal, after paying the fees and expenses. After three months with no claim, the mayor may have it sold. The Star reported in July 2023 that Johor Bahru had depots at Lot 1 Johor Baru Waterfront and on Jalan Mutiara Emas in Taman Mount Austin, and that the council towed 3,441 cars in the first five months of that year. That report put retrieval at about RM120 plus storage, which the 2026 order has overtaken. GetGo also warns its drivers that towing and recovery costs are theirs to bear.
Compounds on a Singapore car
A compound notice gives you 21 days to pay, and the order lets the council prosecute the driver or owner after that. It accepts cash, card and online payment, at its headquarters or a branch. We found nothing on how a council compound follows a Singapore owner home, so pay it instead of waiting to find out.
Clamping
Mid Valley Southkey's Gate 6 is the only clamping charge we found in print. The Johor Bahru order talks about towing, removal and detention, and does not mention clamping.
What catches Singapore drivers out
The rate tables don't make these obvious:
- Friday can be the weekend. The higher rate starts on Friday on Paradigm's ordinary levels and for valet at Mid Valley Southkey, and IKEA's page says the same for Toppen.
- Zones change the price by more than the day does. On a weekday Paradigm's Super Premium Zone A costs about nine times its ordinary levels for the same three hours.
- Holidays run on Malaysia's calendar. GetGo's free street days are Malaysian public holidays, so a Singapore holiday on a Malaysian working day changes nothing.
- Late nights cost more at Sutera, where each hour doubles to RM2.20 after midnight.
- Old advice sticks around. Guides and help pages still name MBJBSpot, which ParkMax@Johor has replaced in Johor Bahru.
- One app does not cover all of Johor, and Pasir Gudang is not on its list of councils.
What the crossing needs
LTA wants the tank at least three-quarters full leaving Singapore, a stored-value card with enough for the checkpoint toll, printed copies of your certificate of insurance and road tax validity, and a valid driving licence. There are no top-up machines at the checkpoints. ICA says to generate your MyICA QR code before you arrive at the checkpoint.
On the Malaysian side, JPJ charges foreign private cars a road charge of RM20 per entry, by Touch 'n Go card or eWallet. PLUS lists the Touch 'n Go card, SmartTAG and RFID among its toll systems. So the Touch 'n Go card in the door pocket has three jobs: road charge, tolls and parking. Check its balance before you leave.
Our Causeway checklist has both sides of the border in one table. For a mall on the west side, the Woodlands or Tuas guide compares the crossings, and the JB traffic guide covers timing.
Frequently asked questions
How much is parking at Mid Valley Southkey?
RM3 for the first three hours on weekdays and RM4 on weekends and public holidays, then RM1 an hour, on the mall's page as read on 2 November 2026. Gate 6 outdoors is RM5 all day.
How much is City Square JB parking?
The mall publishes no rate. YouTrip reported RM2 an hour every day with a 15-minute grace period on 15 September 2026.
Can I park overnight at City Square JB?
No, according to YouTrip's September 2026 guide, which has the car park open 7am to 2am. Komtar JBCC next door is reported as open 24 hours.
Does ParkMax@Johor work with a Singapore plate?
We could not confirm it. The store listings, Johor Bahru's parking order and the reports we read don't say, so add the car in the app before you cross and use a mall if it is refused.
Is street parking in JB free on Sundays?
GetGo says it is, along with Malaysian public holidays. Johor Bahru's 2026 order lists controlled hours from Saturday to Friday, so read the signboard on that street.
How much does it cost if my car is towed in JB?
Under Johor Bahru City Council's 2026 order, RM250 to RM1,000 for the removal and RM10 to RM50 a day for detention, on top of any compound. You have 21 days to claim the car.
